Differentiate Mass Moment of Inertia vs Area
Moment of Inertia
Inertia: Tendency of a body remain unchanged is
Inertia.
Moment of Inertia: It is the measure of resistance of a
body to change its rotation.
Mass Moment Of Inertia: Under torque
characterizes the angular acceleration undergone by the solid is known as Mass
Moment Of Inertia.
[It depends upon the body mass and the location
of the mass.
It is proportional to the distance from the mass
i.e. Greater the distance bigger the volume of Mass Moment Of Inertia.]
Mass Moment of Inertia = mk2 [where m=mass of a body, k= distance from the center of gravity of that
mass.]
Unit: kg-m2
Area Moment Of Inertia:
It is for two dimensional shape plane.it characterize the deflection under
loading.
[It is used for predicting resistance of a beam
to bending and deflection in a cross-sectional area.]
